Friends of the Earth formally requests the Board of Directors of Mater Misericordiae Limited (controlling entity of Mater Hospital South Brisbane) to stop burning coal at the Mater Hospital South Brisbane. Local community member and Friends of the Earth volunteer hand delivered the formal request on the 5 July 2024 to the Mater's corporate offices in Newstead.

The Queensland Department of Environment and Science quietly refused the Environmental Authority application on 2nd November 2023. Billionaire Clive Palmer owned Waratah Coal’s 1400 MW coal fired power station proposed for the township of Alpha, Central West Queensland has failed at its first approval stage.

Queensland Government may kill off Waratah Coal’s dirty new coal power station proposal.
On the 9 November 2021, Queensland Deputy Premier MP Miles notified intent to ‘Call In’ Waratah Coal Pty Ltd’s (owned by billionaire Clive Palmer) dirty new coal power station proposal. A ‘Call In’ will see the Queensland Government relieve the small outback council – Barcaldine Regional Council – of the mammoth task of assessing and approving the power station, and set the stage to end the development.
