Hello everyone and welcome to Di's first blog for the walk. This is actually the second blog I have done for this day, because my computer skills assisted me in the losing the first one. Now I might tell you that the first blog was superb and I am unsure if I will be able to repeat such excellence! But I will give it a go.
I don't know if you are aware but this walk is an 80 day drug and alcohol free event. This means of course no beer, wine or other assorted beverages. Have you any idea how much you want something when you know you can't have it? And do you know how many signs and advertisements I have seen for alcohol since I began this walk? I have seen a sign for hummingbird beer (never even heard of it before today), eaten champagne ham and beer battered chips off the menu, noticed that the printing on the drinks side of the menu is twice the size of the printing on the food side! The list goes on and on.
But seriously, the wonderful reception we have received from hosts so far has been amazing. These people have opened their homes and in some cases their work spaces to accomodate us, they have walked with us and provided us with meals. They have sustained us with their loving gestures and for me as a novice 'walker' feel truly priveleged to have been able to share those moments with these special people.
