Food for Thought - Liz

All along the way we have had locals feeding us. It is most interesting how differently they do it. If we are generously invited to stay in people’s homes overnight, the supply of meals ranges from full service to no food service, with the kitchen for us to use.
Usually all of these benefactors join us for the meal and enjoy spending time with us. During the walk we have been invited for cuppas and even lunch, delicious! An 83-year –old women came to our resting place with a well chilled jug of water and two glasses to quench our thirst. Most of the food providers prepare the food at home and then bring it to the place of our accommodation for the night.

I hope they all know how much we appreciate that! But what a difference there is in feeding us: some women put the food into the room and leave before we turn up; we don’t even get a chance to see and thank them in person. Others just sneak in and out while we are there, trying hard not to be seen or not to cause any disruption. They cannot be convinced to stay for the meal or even for a few minutes, it’s a pity.

And then there are the women who prepare the delicacies at home to bring to us and join us for dinner and a short time after (because we tend to go to bed early) wash up the dishes. Let’s not forget the men who displayed their BBQ talents for us. My personal favourite is when we have the company of these wonderful locals. However, after a day of walking, I am so grateful for every bite that appears in front of me without any of my doing. Without the support of all these people our footprintsforpeace would be a lot more demanding. Thanks, thanks, thanks to all of you!!!
