After a peaceful night I was up and away by 4.30 and walked at a good pace that enabled me to be in Taroom 2 hours before the organised time of 11am. A car stopped at 8am saying I was early, they were planning to be part of the welcoming group. They said they would call and see Adam (organizer) and let him know I was ok. As I was so early and I had seen a sign saying there was a motel only 3klms away, I decided not to stop and cook breakfast but to call in at the motel for eggs and coffee.

I walk for what I thought was more than 4 klms and still no motel as far as I could see. A man called across the road to ask what I was doing. I explained and asked how far the motel was he said over another klm, as I had to walk back to the meeting place I was too tired to go that far. I said I would walk back and prepare myself breakfast. Russell said to just leave my trolley at his gate and he would drive me to the local café, then come back in half an hour and pick me up!!! At the  H”Way Café the owners Russell and Sandra shouted me a lovely breakfast after they had heard what I was doing, the generosity of the country people is overwhelming. Adam came and took me for a drive around the town, pointing out significant places. Three people came out to walk into Taroom with me, then we had a lovely lunch at the church hall with about twelve locals. Lots of talking, joking and laughing went on and we were loaded up with leftovers to see us through the rest of the day.

Potts and I then walked on to the caravan park to set up camp for the night. Derec from Friends of the Earth rang to say he would be there at about 2am, to be a support (with a car) for a few days while Potts was laid up with shin splints.
